Prabhas' Salaar to Release Across PVR INOX Theatres in India, Confirms Multiplex Chain

Prabhas' Salaar to Release Across PVR INOX Theatres in India, Confirms Multiplex Chain

In a recent statement, India's largest multiplex chain, PVR INOX, has put an end to speculations regarding the release of the highly anticipated Telugu film Salaar. The multiplex chain clarified that Salaar, starring Prabhas, will indeed be releasing in its theaters across the country as scheduled, dismissing rumors about the makers refusing to release the film in south Indian multiplexes due to a screen allotment clash with Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki, which was set to release a day earlier.

Release Date and Distribution:

PVR INOX confirmed that Salaar will be hitting the screens on December 22, 2023. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Hindi film Dunki and the big-budget Telugu film Salaar: Cease Fire – Part 1 were initially scheduled for release on December 21 and December 22, respectively. While Dunki is being distributed by Pen Marudhar, Salaar is being released by Anil Thadani’s AA Films. Industry experts predict that both films have the potential to collectively accumulate net box office collections of Rs 800-900 crore domestically, according to brokerage firm Elara Capital.

Clarification by PVR INOX:

PVR INOX responded to speculative media reports about Salaar's release, stating that these reports were incorrect. They emphasized that Salaar is one of the most anticipated films of the year and will be releasing across PVR INOX cinemas pan India. The multiplex chain, known for its widespread presence, encompasses 1,709 screens across 113 cities in India and Sri Lanka.

Resolving Allegations:

The prevailing word among industry insiders until Thursday was that the makers of Salaar were reluctant to screen their film at PVR-INOX and Miraj Cinema theatres in the southern states due to alleged screen allotment bias in favor of Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki. Chaluve Gowda, representing Salaar's producer Hombale Films, accused exhibitors of sidelining Salaar in favor of Dunki at certain theaters. Hombale Films' official handle on microblogging platform X shared that the film had already sold 3.02 million advance booking tickets across India, excluding national multiplex chains PVR INOX and Cinepolis.

Statement from PVR Pictures CEO:

In response to the allegations, PVR Pictures CEO Kamal Gianchandani posted on X, expressing their viewpoint. Gianchandani clarified that commercial disagreements are common when big films release on the same date and assured that everything will fall into place soon. He urged everyone to put aside the "ridiculous theories" surrounding unfair showcasing practices at PVR INOX, emphasizing the company's respect and appreciation for all film producers.

Box Office Expectations:

Exhibitors are optimistic about the Indian gross box office collection for 2023 surpassing the previous year's Rs 10,637 crore, with predictions ranging between Rs 11,000 crore and Rs 12,000 crore. Movies across languages have performed exceptionally well at the box office, contributing to this expected growth. PVR INOX itself reported record-high revenue of nearly Rs 2,000 crore in July-September 2023, marking a 191% increase compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Bollywood has witnessed a strong resurgence this year, with films like Pathaan and Jawan, both starring Shah Rukh Khan, grossing over Rs 500 crore each worldwide. Additionally, films like Animal and Gadar 2 have also been major money-spinners in the Hindi film industry.

With PVR INOX's official confirmation, fans of Prabhas can look forward to the nationwide release of Salaar on December 22, 2023. The film's success is anticipated, and the Indian box office is expected to witness significant growth in 2023, driven by the exceptional performance of films across languages.
