Kanam Rajendran's funeral tomorrow; Public darshan in Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow

 

Thiruvananthapuram: The cremation of late CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran will be held on Sunday. The body will be brought to Thiruvananthapuram airport by helicopter from Ernakulam at 7 am tomorrow.
After that, it will be kept for public viewing at the PS memorial till 2 pm. After that, the body will be taken to Kottayam as a mourning procession and after public darshan at home, the body will be cremated at Vazhur, Kottayam between 10 and 11 am on Sunday morning.
Kanam Rajendran passed away due to a heart attack at a private hospital in Kochi today around 5:30 pm. He was on hiatus following a flare-up of diabetes and leg surgery. Born on November 10, 1950 in Kottayam. Studied at Vazhur SVRNSS School, Kottayam Baselios College and Moscow International Institute. He is a member of the Central Secretariat.
Kanam will become the state secretary for the third time in the Thiruvananthapuram state assembly in 2022. He has been a member of the State Council for 53 years. Kottayam District Secretary twice. In 2015, he became the state secretary for the first time in Kottayam state conference. Public life started with AISF. Kanam, later an AIF worker, became the state secretary in 1970. He also served as National Vice President. He was instrumental in expanding the base of AIIF in Kerala.
In 1970 he became a member of the CPI State Council and later the State Secretariat with NE Balaram as Secretary. He was 25 years old then. Kanath is guided by the wealth of experience gained through working with greats like MN, C Achyutamenon, TV Thomas and Veliyam Bhargavan. Kanam focused on activities in the trade union sector directly from the youth field.
He became a member of the Legislative Assembly from Vazhur in 1982. He represented the Vazhur constituency twice and earned the reputation of being the best parliamentarian. The Construction Workers Act was later enacted following a private bill introduced in the Kanam Legislative Assembly for the safety of workers in the construction sector. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Ramesh Chennithala and Kanam came together as maidens in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
