Kottayam: The Kerala Janapaksham (Secular) party led by P C George merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. PC George, his son Shone George and George Joseph Kakkanad joined the BJP in a meeting at Delhi. Union Ministers V Muraleedharan, Rajeev Chandrasekhar and BJP leader in-charge of Kerala unit Prakash Javadekar attended the event. 

 

"Our party members wish for this merger. India is fortunate have one of the best prime ministers in its history. Party activists have opined that we should support him. Seat is not the priority here. If BJP asks me to compete I shall. If not, that is also fine. We are hoping to arrive at a decision before the Lok Sabha polls," PC George had said ahead of a meeting with BJP leaders on Tuesday.

Last December, the leader had announced his plans to join the National Democratic Alliance led by the BJP. According to earlier reports, he was keen to contest from the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency under the NDA ticket in the upcoming elections.

Guwahati: The Bharat Jo Do Nyay Yatra led by Congress Ne Thaw Rahul Gandhi MP was blocked from entering Guwahati city. The activists crossed the barricades shouting slogans and clashed with the police.

Assam DG files case against Rahul Gandhi for provoking crowd Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma gave instructions to P. Rahul responded that despite crossing the barricades, he did not intend to take the law into his hands.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had informed that the Nyay Yatra was denied entry to the city to avoid traffic jams. A large police force was also deployed with barricades at two places to stop the movement. Thousands gathered at Guwahati Chowk to welcome the yatra.

When Rahul arrived, he crossed the barricades and tried to go ahead. Addressing the workers, Rahul said that the Congress workers are not cowards and will defeat the BJP in the next election and capture the government. However, the Chief Minister directed to file a case against Rahul by pointing out that Congress's is a Naxalite struggle and cannot be ignored. He also alleged that many policemen were injured in the attack by the activists.

At the same time, there was controversy when the authorities denied permission at the last minute to Rahul's meeting with the students of a private university in Meghalaya. Speaking to the students from the Nyaya Yatra bus, Rahul alleged that the Assam Chief Minister's office intervened and denied permission as per the instructions of the Union Home Minister.


Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia sent a letter to Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria seeking a judicial inquiry into the violence against state Congress President Bhupan Bora during Nyay Yatra.
